Biography
DJ YOUNG RYE
DJ Young Rye, born Ryan Kersey (Jan. 2, 1984), is a native of Virginia. He began his career as a DJ while a 2nd year at the University of Virginia. For the extremely motivated, determined young man, DJing was more of a hobby. His hobby eventually turned into DJ Young Rye’s career. Aspiring to become a producer, he sought counsel from his two music industry heavy hitter cousins: Just Blaze, super producer for such artists as Jay-Z, and DJ Poun’, Las Vegas strip and 40/40 club’s DJ. Just Blaze and DJ Poun’ instructed Ryan to begin his budding interest in entertainment as a DJ. He has been DJing ever since.
He goes by the name DJ Young Rye because of his baby face and the shortened version of his name, Ryan, is Rye. Every summer during college, Ryan would spend it in New York City, interning at the legendary Baseline Studios. The 1st summer prior to interning Rye had the opportunity to witness Just (Blaze) on stage of Jay-Z’s and 50 Cent’s "Roc the Mic" tour (2003) not knowing this would be the moment he would realize what he wants to do in life. Jay-Z comes on stage to a sold out 25,000+ crowd going wild and Jay goes to Just…"kick that @*&% Just!" And you have a sea of people going crazy as Just and Jay have everyone put up the ROC. Chills went through his body and it was a moment he will never forget and that’s when Rye knew this passion was real. The next few years, while interning at the studio, DJ Young Rye would meet individuals who would eventually further his career as a DJ.
Eventually DJ Young Rye created his own event promotions company, R.U.P. Productions. Through R.U.P. Productions, he has engineered events with The Clipse, Just Blaze, Paul Wall, Dem Franchise Boyz, Re-UP Gang and Trey Songz, just to name a few. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, DJ Young Rye began to live his dreams, nontheless, after solidifying his reign as top DJ in his college town. Young Rye has had the privilege to DJ all over the country as well as rock alongside Just Blaze at Ibiza Night Club for the star studded Santana Moss Birthday Bash (Washington, DC 2008), not to mention numerous 40/40 club events including A.Rod’s All White Party in NYC with DJ Poun’. DJ Young Rye has DJed throughout the country at such venues as the Lotus Sound Bar (Honolulu, Hawaii), the VIP Room (New York City) and is the Official DJ of retired NFL player now TV (Comcast) & Radio host Brian Mitchell. At the VIP Room, DJ Young Rye DJed the Def Jam and Corporate Thug Entertainment preview party for Young Jeezy’s Thug Motivation 101 album.
